Club Med Sandpiper Bay Closed For Renovations

The Club Med Sandpiper is closed from August 20th to December 18th, 2010 for a $25 million dollar renovation project. It will reopen with the new name Club Med Sandpiper Bay.

This is great news for numerous reasons. First and foremost, the Club Med Sandpiper needed renovations. The buildings were showing their age and the resort was limited in terms of space and offerings.

After the renovations are completed, the 216-acre site with 33 rooms in Port Lucie on Florida’s east coast, will feature a new golf course, golf academy, tennis academy, an expanded fitness center, a spa, more gourmet restaurants and added activities for children including a water park.

Another reason this is great news is because it improves the only major all inclusive resort located within the United States. Many people try to find all inclusive resorts within the United States. Many travelers have been disappointed to find the aging Club Med Sandpiper as their only option.

These are all great additions that will create the flagship "Premium Sports" resort within the Club Med family of resorts. The Club Med Sandpiper has always been known as a great resort for tennis players, but these renovations take the sports and spa offerings to the next level.

Introductory rates for the new resort will start at $129 per person per night for travel between the dates of January 1st to February 18th, 2011.

I have heard really good things about the tennis program at this resort, but when I go on vacation, I like to get a little more tropical.
