I'm trying to figure out if there are good beaches on Cozumel???

I know the island is primarly known as a scuba and snorkeling destination.

I used Google Earth to look at the coastline of Cozumel and I didn't really see many beaches. I primarily saw rocky coastlines along with ports and piers.

I like the idea of going to one of the all inclusive resorts on Cozumel because I like snorkeling and would love to learn how to scuba dive in a great scuba diving location. (as opposed to learning in some muddy lakes where I live as some of my friends did.)

I just want to make sure there are some good beaches on Cozumel so I can lounge around a little and do some swimming from a beach when I am not snorkeling or scuba diving.

You can find good beaches on Cozumel, but you are right that Cozumel is known for its diving more than for beaches.

Playa San Fransico is probably the best on the island. It actually is a 3 mile streatch that includes the Playa Maya and Playa Santa Rosa beaches. It is located on the southwest side of Cozumel. Unfortunately, it is close enough to the cruise ship port to be crowded with cruise ship passengers at times.

Playa San Juan is in the resort area. It is kinda rocky, but you will find numerous restaurants and services here that you won't find in other areas of Cozumel.

Overall, don't go to Cozumel for the beaches. Many of the resorts are located on Playa San Juanand have ok beaches, but it is not for the beach lovers who are looking for great beaches.

Thanks for the info James.

I think I found a resort on Cozumel that has everything I want.

Good diving, snorkeling, and the pictures on the resort site show a pretty decent beach.
