I Need Suggestions For A 2009 Christmas All Inclusive Resorts Vacation

My wife and I were looking at the calendar and decided we have way too many days planned with our families over the Christmas and New Years holidays.

Out of the eight days we will be with our families, I asked my wife if we could use 3 or 4 of them to sneak off to an all inclusive resort. She thought that was a great idea!

So now we are looking for a destination and a deal for over the holidays. I know this is probably the most expensive time to go.

If anyone knows of or hears of good all inclusive resort deals during that time period, please respond to this discussion.

We are open to any resort and any location. We will probably be flying out of the Minneapolis airport shortly after Christmas.

It will be my wife and I along with our infant daughter. Our toddler son will be staying with grandma and grandpa as we lounge in the sun. We're not sure we like the idea of leaving him behind from this trip, but I'm sure we will be happy when we only have one child to care for on the plane and at the resort. He loves playing with grandma and grandpa so he should be ok.

I would love to go to a romantic couples only resort, but we really can't get ourselves to leave our infant daughter behind.

Also, if I find a great deal, I'll post it here once we have made our reservation so other people can take advantage of the research I will be doing.

That sounds like a good idea James. Just because you have that many days off for the holidays doesn't mean they all have to be spent visiting. Hmmmm, I wonder if I can make the same argument : )

As for places to go, I haven't checked prices recently, but check Mexico to see if the prices are still low to get travelers back after the swine flu scare. Mexico all inclusive resorts have been offering some really good deals the past few months, but I'm not sure if you will find the same offers during the holiday season.

I remember from another discussion that you were thinking of trying Hotwire for a last minute all inclusive deal. Since prices are usually higher over the holidays and you seem flexible, maybe this is the time to try a Hotwire deal??? If you do, let us know how it goes.

Hi Lea

We talked more about this last night and decided that we would only take a short trip if we found a really good last minute deal. So we will be checking the Hotwire site toward the end of December to see what we can find. I'll let you know if we find something and how it goes with Hotwire.

We also needed to update our passports so we got the application and pictures done and sent them in last week. It takes awhile for passports to be processed so we'll see if we get our passports in time to take a foreign vacation during the holiday break. Otherwise we could still consider the Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico. Are Americans still able to travel to those two destinations without passports?

James, no passport is required for Puerto Rico or The Virgin Islands if you are an American citizen.

Thanks for confirming this Paul

Hey James -

I've actually been looking around for a few deals for myself, so when I came across your add I figured I'd toss you some of the info I've found if it fits your needs. I actually just found a great deal for a friend of mine in mid January to Mexico while searching. She's been going every year for over 8 years and I just found the cheapest price she's ever gotten :)... I've found different prices for different AI Resorts all over, so in the interest of not overloading you with unnecessary information would you be willing to give me a rough estimate of what you are looking to spend. And maybe range of dates you'd be wanting to travel. I've been looking through a lot of dates because my travel plans are flexible as well. Just let me know that info if you would like and I will send over what I have found that fits that.... Happy Holidays!

Hi everyone

We talked again last night and decided not to go on a vacation over the christmas break.

The main reason is because if we are going to spend some money, we both would rather buy a flat screen television for our bedroom. Something we will enjoy for many years.

Sounds like a good idea : )
