Dominican Republic All Inclusive Resort Questions

I've been looking into all inclusive resorts in the Dominican Republic for a couple of years.

The main question I wanted to post here is if anyone has been to the all inclusive resort areas in the Dominican Republic other than Punta Cana.

I'm pretty sure I will go to Punta Cana and stay at either the Iberostar Bavaro or the Iberostar Punta Cana, but before I book my trip, I took another look at some of the other destinations such as Puerto Plata and La Romana. I like the idea of staying at a smaller destination compared to the popular beaches in Punta Cana, but I wonder if it will be a little too isolated? WIll the smaller beaches be good enough compared to the world famous beach in Punta Cana?

I also have heard things about organized crime operating in the Dominican Republic. If you have been to the Dominican Republic, did you feel safe during your stay?

Thanks for any advice or comments anyone could offer.

I felt completely safe in Punta Cana. It is a poor area similar to many of the other areas in the Caribbean, but the people are nice. There are some vendors on the beach and in the small markets who can be rude or intimidating, but overall, most people were nice. Like most people in the resorts, a lot of time is spent in the resorts with the resort staff. The beach in front of the resort usually has a security guard or resort employees.

I've never been to the other areas of the Dominican Republic.

You need to be smart about it just like anywhere else. Beware of pickpocketers. Don't flash wealth in front of a bunch of people who make a couple bucks a day. Stay in groups especially after dark.

There was a economic crisis recently in the Dominican Republic that increased crime rates, but there still are relatively few crimes committed against tourists. The Dominican Republic also is a gateway for drugs going from Latin America to the United States. This leads to organized crime and also a population that has a higher amount of addicts looking for money to afford their next fix.

Again, most areas have similar problems - including most cities in the United States. You just need to be smart and safe when making choices about where to go and what to do.

If you go to the caebean side of the island there is alot less wind in your face comes from your back which makes the water very calm & very little waves good for just relaxing. We always travel Apple vaction they take care of everything with no problems, only bad thing is its about a 75 min drive to the resort from the airport but you do see the country side and some little town usually by a charted bus or van depening on how many are going to that resort.Dreams is very high end the best food on the island and all the drinks & entertainment you can handle, everyone is very polite and helpfull just like every place on the island dont drink water from thr tap only bottle water which is all over the place. There is a casino.Look it up on line or go too Applevactions.com You will Love this Place ....

We have been to both places years ago too many people for our taste there were too many college spring breakers and they got loud not rowdy or anything like that.there is the RUI and the Bravro and Ierbrostar all in a row you coiuld eat at any of the 3 hotels also share the pools & beach you all had wrist bands which is a pain.
There is alot of beach activites para sailing banana boat rides and wind surfing again too many people for us!!!
We wont go again unless it was real cheap as in under a grand per person complete.Good Luck

PS the flower gardens are the best i ever seen in and around all the hotels.

Last year we stayed at Dreams in La Romana the resort was great and the food and drinks were betetr than other all inclusives. The beach was a little dissapointing. It was small and not as sanding. The area was definitely safer than punta cana We actually biked to the village next door and walked around ( you can also walk to here) The year before we stayed at the riu palace and loved the beach I have been to many of the caribbean islands and my favorite beach is punta Cana the sand is great and the water is perfect. long beach to walk suring the days walk for miles . the area of punta cana at night is very different you really stay in the resort Riu owns 4 or 5 properties you can use all of them if you stay at the palace. Don't be intimidated by the first inpression when you get to the airport it is very crazy but the people in the dominican Republic on the whole are very nice and helpful Good Luck

My husband and I have been to Punta Cana three times. We first stayed at the Paradsius and our second two trips stayed at Excellence. Both are very nice, but we loved Excellence enough to make a return trip. For us that is saying a lot! We have taken 11 all inclusive vaccations and this is the only time we went back to the same resort twice. Your money goes a long way and Excellence is very detailed oriented. They even have a person on the beach to clean the sand off the beach chairs.
