All Inclusive Resorts

I thought we could share tips on how to have the best all inclusive resort vacation.

My favorite tip (that my dad once told me) is to always bring along your own large mug because all inclusive resorts tend to only have small glasses available as a way to save money on their beverage costs. Taking your own larger mug will save you numerous trips to the bar when all you want to do is sit on the beach enjoying a beverage.

Any other tips for enjoying all inclusive resort vacations?

I recommend calling ahead to ask questions. Sometimes you will get a nice front desk person who will answer questions, offer advice, check your room location, and move or upgrade you depending on how the conversation goes.

Calling ahead and asking questions upon check-in gives two potential chances for better room locations and upgrades. I'm going to start calling ahead.

I agree with using last minute travel services to get good prices. I have been using Hotwire a lot lately and have been staying in some really nice hotels for some very low prices. I have never used Hotwire for an all inclusive resort vacation, but it certainly makes sense that the all inclusive resorts need to fill their rooms.

In addition to last minute deals, take the time to search for low prices on all inclusive resorts from the travel agencies. My parents seem to find really good deals by doing a lot of online research before they make a purchase.

Another good idea I found is to take some walkie talkies. This is especially nice if you are on a vacation with children. This way, you don't have to walk down to the beach to check in with your loved one or walk to the kids club to se if your children are ready to do something else. Phone coverage is usually terrible and expensive in vacation destinations.

I think this might be my favorite tip so far. I usually travel with a bunch of people and we always have trouble figuring out when we will meet each other for dinner. It also is a good idea for later in the evening when some of us go to see the entertainment and some head to various bars. It would be great to be able to easily stay in touch with each other.

Ask for premium liquor if you have a favorite brand. Otherwise, resorts often instruct their bartenders to make your drink with a cheaper rail option.

The same is true at the restaurants. If you want something, but don't see it on the menu, ask for it and they might be able to accommodate your request.

yes bubba kegs work great if your a big beer drinker....also if they have beach service do not tip them too much at first, it seems like they never come back if they get that big tip up front for the day.

Taking along your own mug or Bubba Keg depends on which resort you are going to. It is crucial for some resorts, but the Couples resorts in Jmaica won't fill mugs and kegs brought from home. Not really needed at Couples though because they have red flags on their beach chairs so whenever you want a drink you just raise your flag.

I usually take one along. Not a huge one, but it is nice to have if I find myself at a resort where they have the small plastic cups. I don't want to make so many trips to refill my mug and I don't want to waste so much plastic.
